Hi everyone,
More good news on the David Myles front. I am very pleased to announce that I was chosen as the first place winner in the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest (general category) at Merlefest this past week. Unbelievable. This is the same contest that Gillian Welch won in 1993.

It's an honour.

I went down to Wilkesboro, North Carolina, where Merlefest takes place, last Thursday. Friday was the day of the contest and because I won I was given the chance to play again that night, this time to a huge audience. It was awesome. More people then I've ever played to. Probably almost 30,000 (check out the photo). Hard to know for sure but I did hear that on Saturday there was 80,000 people so I'm thinking that's a realistic guess. Wow.

I had a great weekend. Got to check out tons of unbelievable tuneage. Saw the legendary Doc Watson (up close, I'll attach a picture), Levon Helm, Ricky Skaggs with Bruce Hornsby, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas and a whole bunch more. It was pretty overwhelming and very inspiring. Anyway, I hope you dig the photos.

Next Tuesday, May 6th, is the big release date. The new disc will be in stores all over Canada and everywhere on the web.

Thanks, as always, for the visit.

Hi folks,
Welcome to the new site. That's right, the time has come and the new album is ready to go. May 6th is the date. They're all printed up, looking good and sounding wicked (if I can say that). You can even check out some of the tunes in the music section. Hope you dig them. And feel free to spread the word.

Mat Dunlap is the man behind all the design stuff you're checking out. He designed the new record, the site, etc. So thanks goes out to him.

In other news, I was recently chosen as a finalist in the Chris Austin
Songwriting Competition. It takes place every year at Merlefest, which is one of the (if not the) biggest bluegrass festivals in the world. I'm super excited about it. I get to go down, play and check out the whole festival. It's pretty unreal. I'll keep you posted on that for sure.

Anyway, thanks as always for the visit. I'm so pleased to be able to let you know that the new album is all done and that I'm feeling really good about it. Thanks to everyone who played on the record (and there are a whole whack of folks who did), helped make the record and to all of you guys for the support. I'm excited to hear what you think.

Take care,
March 12,
Hey Folks,
It's been a little while and there's lots of good stuff to pass on. First, I should tell you that the East Coast Music Awards this year in Fredericton were awesome. My hometown kicked butt at putting on the event. Made me proud. I was lucky enough to play a bunch of shows with the band and even got to host a songwriters circle that featured special guest Steven Page of the Barenaked Ladies. Good dude he is. It was fun. You can see some footage of the band playing at the Playhouse here.

About a week and a half later a bunch of East Coast musicians headed down to Memphis Tennessee together to take part in the North American Folk Alliance. Again, all good. It was really fun. I played four times over the weekend and met a lot of great folks. I also ate more meat than I thought humanly possible. It was insane. Got to see Graceland, the Stax Museum and best of all the Civil Rights Museum. Really worthwhile.

After Memphis I headed to Nashville for a few days. It was crazy. I met all these great folks who had written hits for everyone from James Blunt, Jessica Simpson to Bon Jovi. Awesome. It was a world I really had never been exposed to so it was really interested to check out. I also got to play my first show down there which was great. Thanks to Gordie and Helen for the incredible hospitality!! You guys rule.

And most recently I was in Toronto for Canadian Music Week. It was quick but really fun. I played on Saturday night at the Rivoli as part of the Music Nova Scotia showcase with a bunch of the province's finest (Catherine MacLellan, Thom Swift, Dave Gunning, Jenn Grant, Dog Day, Don Brownrigg, and a bunch of others.) The night was really well put together and the crowd was wicked. Nicely done Music Nova Scotia.

Now after many late nights I'm looking for a little downtime before things start to ramp up for the release of the new record "On The Line". That's right. It's going down. April 29th is the official release date. It'll be in stores nationwide as of then. However, I am doing some shows between now and then around the Maritimes where they'll be available. I can't wait. I've been giving 'er on this record for a while now so it feels really great to have it done. And I'm really happy with how it came out. Now I'm really ready to pass it on to you guys and see what you think.

Anyway, that's about it for now. Hopefully I'll see some of you soon. Thanks as always for the visit.
Take care, David

January 26th,

Greetings from a cold but sunny Halifax,
Happy New Year. I hope you're all starting 2008 well rested and ready to roll. Things have been great here lately. I had a great trip out west for a couple shows in Canmore and Edmonton. It was awesome to see everyone and thanks so much to the folks that help make those shows possible. They were a lot of fun.
In other news, I'm pleased to report the album is now mastered and ready to hit the press. Just working out the final details on the album art. I'm really excited about it. It's been a whole heck of a lot of work but I think it's come out really nicely. Lots of great folks lent their talents as well. Garrett Mason, Matt Mays, Geoff Arsenault, Tom Easley, Kim Dunn, Jim Bryson, Meaghan Smith, Bill Stevenson, Thom Swift, Old Man Luedecke and a bunch of others. It's pretty crazy. I feel really lucky to get all these people on here and they do a wicked job. Anyway, it looks like all will be ready to roll sometime in stores in late April.
However, the album will be available before then to be purchased at the live shows I'm doing starting at the end of March. A CD release tour in the Maritimes has been coming together and it's starting to look really great. Doing a bunch of theatre type spots throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, most of which I'll be playing with a band. Very exciting indeed. More details to come about that but for now you can check out what's been booked and ready to roll in the upcoming shows section.
I think that's it for now. I'm really looking forward to sharing these new tunes with you.
Thanks, as always, for the visit.
Take care,

Dec. 27th, 2007-
Happy Holidays Everyone!
Hope the festive season is treating you well. Life is good out here in Halifax. I'm pleased to say the new record is slowly but surely coming together. In December I went up to Orangeville, Ontario (north of Toronto) to hook up with Darryl Neudorf (www.darrylneudorf.com), who mixed the record. It was awesome. Stayed in this farmhouse on a big property and worked like a demon. I think it turned out really great. Darryl's a great guy and has worked on a number of awesome projects (Neko Case, Jim Bryson, Justin Rutledge, Jim Cuddy) so it was cool to be there. Next step is to get the album mastered (the finishing touches). That's going to be done by a guy named Peter Moore (www.peterjmoore.com). Another really cool dude, who's worked on a bunch of crazy stuff (Cowboy Junkies, Bruce Cockburn, The Band). So that's the status report there. All is moving along and a spring release is still the plan.
In another news, I'm heading out west in January, but unfortunately just for a couple shows. But they'll be they'll be good ones I reckon. Canmore, on January 16th and Edmonton on Jan 19th.
Thanks, as always for the visit. I hope you're all relaxing lots and having the best kind of holiday season.
Take care,

November 17, 2007 -

Hi again,

I'm down in Doylestown, PA right now as part of a US tour with a whole whack of Canadian songwriters. Having a great time. Played in NYC for the first time the other night. What a city. I sure hope to go back there soon.

I wanted to pass on some good news. Last weekend I was fortunate to win a couple of Nova Scotia Music Awards! Much to my surprise I won the award for Best Male Artist Recording and tied in the Best Folk/Roots Recording with my good friend Rose Cousins. Amazing.

Anyway, just wanted to pass that on. All is well. Hope to see some of you out at the Dakota Tavern in Toronto on December 5th. It's going to be a great time. Remember it starts early, 8pm.

Hi again folks,
Got a couple good news items I wanted to pass on. First, as I have mentioned before, I'm a lucky man. On my last record and the record I'm currently working on I've been able play with bassist Tom Easley and drummer Geoff Arsenault. They're unreal and the coolest dudes I know. Anyway, the Maple Blues Society agrees and both of these fine folks have been nominated for bassist and drummer of the year respectively. I really think they should win. So if you feel like helping out go to MapleBlues.ca and cast your vote. Also, my good buddies Thom Swift and Garrett Mason are nominated as well so check them off too.

In other news, I'm coming to Toronto. December 5th. Early show at the Dakota Tavern. I'll have a band for the show and I promise it'll be great. Hope to see some of you out. Starts at 8pm.

Hi there folks,

It's a beautiful sunny September day here in Halifax. I wanted to share some good news. I've been nominated for three Nova Scotia Music Awards (Male Artist Recording of the Year, Songwriter of The Year and Folk Recording of the Year). I reckon they're all a bit of a long shot but I sure am stoked to get the nods. I'm in great company.

Also, just posted some cool dates in the States. Check em out. Spread the word.

I hope you're all doing well. Thanks so much for the visit.

Hi there,
I just got back from the sunny shores of California and I got to say it was wicked. Jill Barber, Rose Cousins, Old Man Luedecke and myself were fortunate enough to get to play at the Strawberry Music Festival just outside of Yosemite National Park last weekend. Unreal. We were accompanied by legendary tour manager Wayne O'Connor and master social coordinator Mickey Quase and a good time was had by all. We also saw some great music. Some of the headliners of the festival were Lucinda Williams, Dr. John and Mark O'Connor. But the real highlights were a bluegrass band called the Dry Branch Fire Squad and a British soul singer named James Hunter. Unbelievable. I was totally blown away by both of them. The front man of the Dry Branch Fire Squad was the most masterful story teller/banterer I have ever seen by far. Go see them, it'll be worth it. James Hunter, who's making some pretty darn serious waves is totally worthy of all the hype. His band was rad and he was a seriously amazing front man (dance moves and all).

In other news (and very good news), I found out yesterday that I was chosen as a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest for my tune "When It Comes My Turn". Great news. Check out the judges on this one. Wicked.

Anyway, I hope you're all doing well. Thanks as always for the visit.
Take care,

First, I should apologize for the shameful amount that has passed since my last update. Sorry about that. The good news, however, is that things are still rolling along nicely and I'm back on top of things now. I'm back in Halifax after a three week sojourn with my good friend Old Man Luedecke. We had a great time hitting cities and towns between Calgary and Victoria. Thanks so much to all the people who came out and of course all of those that help spread the word and offered a place to crash. Unbelievable. I'm a lucky man to have such good friends. The shows went really well and I'm already starting to get excited about the next trip out there.

Also I wanted to thank everyone who sent me really nice notes regrading the songwriters competition. Thank you so much. It was awesome to hear from everyone. I totally appreciate the support. It has been cool for sure, though I still haven't heard from Mr. Waits himself or from Willie Nelson saying he wants to sing the tune for his next album. We'll see.

In terms of recent news and stuff on the go in the next little while I had a great time playing down in Petite Riviere, NS at the firehall this past weekend. Super fun. Great crowd and I got to play with bass master Tom Easley and the guru of percussion Geoff Arsenault. These are the guys who played on my last album. They're wicked. I don't get the chance to play with them too much but that's going to change as much as possible. We had a great time. Tom even came up with a name for the band, "The Expenses", "David Myles and The Expenses". Not bad eh? More shows to come with those guys for sure. In other exciting news I am doing a slew of Maritime dates in the month of June with Ottawa singer/songwriter Jim Bryson . You should check out his stuff. He's great and his new album "Where the Bungalows Roam" is amazing. Check out the dates listed on the side to see where and when. I'm really looking forward to them. Plus I'm hosting a songwriters cirlce in Fredericton on June 22. Thought it was due time that I invite some of my favourite singer/songwriters to my dear hometown. Very exciting.

I think that is probably it for now. I hope everyone is doing well.

Thanks so much for the visit. Take care,

Hi everyone,

I am overwhelmly pleased to announce that I have been chosen as the winner of the 2006 International Songwriting Competition in the Folk/Singer-Songwriter category for my tune "When It Comes My Turn"! Wooohooo! It's an incredible honour and to say the least I'm pretty darn excited about it. 15,000 applicants from 88 countries. Insane.
